So Said Kay 05:04

about

Between 1988 and 1991, the Field Mice released ten records of quite astonishing beauty, diversity and emotional power, restlessly reinventing themselves and their sound not just with every release, but sometimes on opposite sides of the same piece of vinyl. Not for one moment, though, do the kaleidoscopic imagination and determination to experiment obscure Bobby Wratten's gift for a heart-stopping lyric or breath-catching tune. The original releases – a mix of singles, EPs, mini-albums and one solitary full-length LP – came out on Sarah Records but, after Sarah had ended, Shinkansen Recordings issued Where'd You Learn To Kiss That Way?, a double-CD compilation spanning the whole of the band's three-year career and containing most of the songs from those ten records; it is, in all respects, a quite staggering body of work.

about

The Field Mice London, UK

The Field Mice began as a duo of Bobby Wratten (vocals, guitar) and Michael Hiscock (bass), old schoolfriends from south London. Harvey Williams (aka Another Sunny Day) joined on additional guitar and by the time of their final recordings for Sarah Records they were a 5-piece, with Mark Dobson playing drums and Anne Mari Davies on vocals, keyboards and guitars. ... more
